Born in Zimbabwe, Africa and raised on a 31,000 acre cattle and game ranch, Rowan grew up rugged in the bush and as a result has a very unique and time tested set of wilderness skills. Both he and his father were Professional Hunters and spent a great deal of time guiding wildlife safaris, working cattle, riding horses, and promoting conservation through local education programs.
Rowan found his way to a Wilderness First Responder course that SOLO International was doing in Nsongwe, Zambia at the time. From that course he came to SOLO, became a Wilderness EMT and SOLO instructor. In Africa Rowan worked logistics for Doctors Without Borders through cholera epidemic- and political violence responses, then spent 7 weeks in Haiti after the earthquake coordinating SOLO’s medical relief work there.
His deep connection to African life, culture and conservation has helped put SOLO trained providers on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the safari plains of Maasai Mara and Zambezi Valley anti-poaching teams protecting endangered black rhinos and elephants.
The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the gold standard in remote medical training, preparing participants to handle emergencies when help is hours or days away.
The Village First Aid Course provides essential life-saving skills tailored for rural and resource-limited communities.
